Actor Amaechi Muonagor buried amidst tears
In a gathering of grieving family members, relatives, and the Nollywood family, Nollywood icon Amaechi Muonagor was laid to rest on Friday in his Obosi country home in the Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State.
Among those in attendance to mourn the late actor were Peter Obi, the Labour Party's 2023 presidential contender, and Dom Onyenji, the Anambra State Commissioner for Culture, Tourism, and Entertainment.
During his sympathy statement, Obi prayed to God for the icon's soul to rest and mourned the loss of the beloved figure. He also encouraged the grieving family to find comfort in their memories.
Onyenji, for his part, observed that Amechi Muonagor's passing had left Nollywood without a creative personality. He insisted that because the legend mentored talents in the business and performed his parts brilliantly while still alive, the Anambra State government was in mourning alongside Nollywood.
The National President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, AGN, Emeka Ejezie, also spoke and encouraged the grieving family to find comfort in the fact that their loved one was a brilliant man.
Veteran actor Steve Eboh was Ejezie's representative, and she begged to God in His immense mercy that He would give them the strength to face the loss.
During her statement, AGN's state chairman, Mrs. Chinyere Anyaegbunam, emphasized that the late legend was someone the industry looked up to as a father figure, saying that they had lost someone extremely dear to everyone.
According to Anyaegbunam, several of them received mentoring in the film industry from the late Muonagor.
