IgboMustGo: Tinubu Reacts To Threats
On Sunday, President Bola Tinubu promised that those advocating for South-East Nigerians to leave the South-West (Yoruba territory) would be subject to the full force of the law.
According to a tweet, a user on the microblogging site X (previously known as Twitter) recently published a tweet endorsing the trending hashtag "#IgboMustGo."
Igbos living in Lagos State and other South-West regions were given a one-month ultimatum by the post to relocate back to South-East.
Igbo communities in Lagos and other south-western regions are tense as a result of this.
In response to the development, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu dissociated his administration and himself from the request.
The governor gave security personnel the command to look into the identity of the social media handle's owner.
In his national broadcast on Sunday, President Tinubu addressed the issue and promised that the IgboMustGo advocates would face consequences.
He said,
“To those who have taken undue advantage of this situation to threaten any section of this country, be warned: The law will catch up with you.
“There is no place for ethnic bigotry or such threats in Nigeria we seek to build”.
