PDP Deputy National Women Leader, Wanka Resigns
The Deputy National Women Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Hajiya Hajara Yakubu Wanka has resigned from her position in the heirachy of the party. Hajiyya Wanka made this known in her resignation letter addressed to the Acting National Chairman of the party, Ambassador Iliya Damagun and sent to the National Secretariat in Abuja. According to Wanka, who also served as Special Adviser under the administration of former Bauchi State Governor, Dr Mallam Isah Yuguda, her resignation from the position of National Women Leader was necessitated by her latest appointment to serve as a commissioner in the Bala Mohammed administration in Bauchi State. Hajiyya Wanka in her letter, said she was grateful to the national leadership of the party for availing her the privilege to serve at the national level. The PDP official also expressed gratitude to the Bauchi State Governor, Bala Muhammed for finding her worthy to serve in his cabinet. Wanka, who was among the 24 commissioner-nominees’ list sent to the State House of Assembly by Governor Mohammed and screened and confirmed by the House, noted that she had gained so much experience while serving as the Deputy National Women Leader of the party. She said such experience would hence, serve as a springboard for her to do better as commissioner of Bauchi State. Meanwhile, the leadership of the People’s Democratic Party has congratulated Hajiyya Wanka on her new appointment as Commissioner in governor Muhammeds’ administration. The PDP, in a statement released on Monday by its National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, said the appointment of Wanka was a reward for her competence and brilliance. Ologunagba also described Wanka’s appointment as another testament to her selfless service, deep intellect, administrative skills and patriotic roles towards the development of PDP, Bauchi State and the nation at large. According to the statement which extolled the technical competence of the commissioner-designate, the party is very proud to have experienced Wanka’s sense of humility in service, commitment to duty and extraordinary capacity for leadership, especially in her position and other assignments given to her by the party. The party also commended Governor Mohammed for finding Wanka worthy of the appointment. It further noted that such a move reinforces his recognition of merit in choosing the best hands to assist him in the administration of Bauchi State. Hajiya Hajara Yakubu Wanka is the Daughter of Former CBN Director, late Alhaji Yakubu Wanka and grand daughter of late Prime Minister, Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa. She is the former Special Adviser on Millennium Development Goals to Bauchi State former Governor, Dr Mallam Isah Yuguda. Hajiyya Wanka is also the Chief Executive Officer, CEO of Hajara Wanka Foundation and is often regarded to as a philanthropist by many. According to reports, Wanka, while serving as special adviser on millennium development goals, was able to successfully attend to all eight MDGs in the state. The eight MDGs include eradication of extreme poverty and hunger, achieving universal primary education, promotion of gender equality and women empowerment, as well as the reduction of child mortality and improved maternal health. It also includes combating of HIV/AIDS, malaria, and other diseases as well as ensuring environmental sustainability and developing a global partnership for development.
