Police confirm arrest of prankster Zfancy after staged ritual prank
Police in Nigeria have taken into custody popular prankster and influencer Zfancy, whose true name is Ubani Zion.
On Wednesday, July 3, at approximately 11:00 a.m., Zfancy was allegedly brought into arrest in a flat in Wuye, Abuja.
The police verified in a statement on Thursday that the prankster's detention was related to one of his practical jokes.
After pulling a bogus ritualist prank on social media, Zfancy was accused of participating in rituals.
The police posted a statement on their official Instagram account denouncing security-threatening jokes.
This is what the post says:
Mr. Ubani Zion Chibuike, also known as Fancy, is a Nigerian "prankster" who was taken into custody by the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) in an apartment in Wuye, Abuja, through the NPF National Cybercrime Centre.
This arrest comes in response to the circulating films on social media that purportedly showed Fancy committing horrible crimes, including rape. A great deal of anxiety was generated among social media users by these videos.
Moreover, Fancy publicly stated that the films were pre-planned and a part of his effort to return to the limelight following a hiatus. In any case, these behaviors have grave consequences and should not be tolerated.
Along with the statement, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi strongly cautioned other pranksters and content makers against overdoing it with their jokes and content. He continued, saying:
“The Police therefore warns pranksters and content creators to be law-abiding and be conscious of pranks and contents that could pose threats to the public and jeopardise the general security of our country.”
