Bobrisky is Doing Nothing Wrong so we Can't Arrest Him – Nigerian Police
According to the Nigeria police, crossdressing is not a crime in Nigeria, so the police cannot arrest cross-dressers. Force Police Public Officer ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi made this claim while appearing on a recent episode of Politics Today on Channels TV.
He said that although they were aware of the claims that some crossdressers were gay, which is a natural crime, they lacked sufficient evidence to prosecute them.
Adejobi said, “There are some cases that are always difficult to follow. I’m not ruling out the fact that we have many crossdressers.
“But for instance, if you want to prove a case of rape, rape has points to prove. If any one of those points is missing you would lose your case in court.
“Let’s be reasonable, you can arrest somebody you want to persecute without having any credible evidence.
“Crossdressing is not a crime in Nigeria, I’ve not read it anywhere that it is an offence per se. But some of them that are into crossdressing, there are allegations that they are into something else, unnatural offences.
“That is where the problem lies, we need to have enough proof, credible evidence, then we can prosecute them because all those offences are natural offences in Nigeria and punishable under our law.”
He said transvestites may wear anything they wanted, but if there was any evidence that they were involved in “something else,” they would be arrested forcefully.
