No Worker Should Accept N70K As Minimum Wage – APC Chieftain Edema
Olugbenga Edema, a candidate for governor of Ondo State and member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has urged workers nationwide not to accept the N70,000 minimum wage. The candidate, who praised employees for their diligence and hard work, claimed that raising the minimum wage significantly would raise workers’ standards of living.
According to him, workers who put out great effort to support the development and prosperity of the state and the nation must be in favor of a higher minimum wage.
Edema stated that no one should accept or be satisfied with the N70,000 minimum salary while expressing his concerns about the present condition of the economy.
He said “On this auspicious occasion of May Day, I must recognise the invaluable contributions of our workforce to the growth and development of our dear state and the country.
“It is crucial that we ensure their welfare by setting a minimum wage that reflects the current economic conditions.
“The demand for a new minimum wage by Nigerian workers is now at the peak and must urgently be honoured.
“No worker should have to make do with a meagre N70,000 when the cost of living continues to rise.”
According to Edema, the minimum wage for workers ought to be increased to a minimum of N250,000 per month, or N1,250 for each dollar.
He maintained that in order to give workers in the nation a respectable level of living and to be in line with their economic circumstances, such an increase is required.
